Race pack collection will be available on Friday 29th & Saturday 30th September at Bangor Aurora Leisure Centre. Opening times are from 5.00pm – 8.00pm on Friday, and 9.00am – 10.45am on Saturday.

Race Information

The race will be chip timed and part of The Novosco 10k Grand Prix race series. All entrants will receive a goodie bag and all finishers will receive a unique bespoke medal. The chip will be attached to the bib number – please do not fold or damage the chip.

The total prize fund, of over £3000, will include the usual age category prizes, for both male & female winners. Prize giving for the 1st 3 male and female will take place at approx 11.45am in Ward Park and all other prizes will be posted to the winners.

The race starts in Castle Park, near the front of the Town Hall, and finishes in Ward Park. The race is an all-inclusive event, and has attracted Olympians such as Paul Pollock, National Marathon Champion (Irl) Laura Graham, local athletes, new athletes and wheelchair participants in the past.

Water stations will be available at The Meadows, Groomsport, and at the finish line.

Facilities

Changing facilities, including showers, are available at Aurora Leisure Centre. Toilets are also located in the Leisure Centre, as well as public toilets in Castle Park, Abbey Street, and Ward Park.

Free car parking is available at the Aurora Leisure Centre, near the start at Castle Park, or close to the finish at Ward Park. There are also a number of paid-for carparks in the town. Please allow plenty of time to park and make your way to the start line.

Route

The route is fairly flat and fast, with a short hill around 9k. The route starts in Castle Park, close to the front of the Town Hall, and makes its way through Bangor town centre before heading out along the coast and countryside to Groomsport. The route will loop through Groomsport once again meeting the coast for the penultimate KM back to Bangor. The finish area is in Ward Park in Bangor, where there is plenty of space to rest and enjoy the atmosphere. Please note, the roads are not closed to traffic so follow marshals instructions. Why not ask to family and friends to come along and support along the route!

Safety

The race is held under Athletics NI Permit and has been accurately measured. Participants must be 15 years or over on race day. To ensure the safety of participants, we request participants not to wear headphones. The roads are not closed to traffic and it is important to be able to hear marshal directions on the route. First Aid will be provided by Ambutran, along the route and at the finish.

Design a Medal Competition

This year, for the first time, we would like to invite primary school aged children to enter a competition to design the medal that will be given to everyone who finishes the race. Unleash your creativity, there are no restrictions on the design and your medal will hang around the necks of 100s of tired race goers on Saturday, Sept 30th. The winner of the competition will be awarded a special edition of their medal and invited to attend the prize giving on race day.

All entries should be made by 5.00pm on Friday 21st July. Paper entries can be hand delivered to the Spectator Newspaper offices at 91 Main Street, Bangor, or 2 Balloo Link, Bangor. Alternatively email your design to northdownac@gmail.com.

The lucky winner will be selected and notified by 1st August. Please include your name, address, DOB, telephone number and a parent/guardian signature on each entry. Only entry per child is permitted.
