East Antrim Marathon and Half Marathon Day

Last Sunday East Antrim hosted their latest races in the marathon series to coincide with Marathon Day. North Down were represented in both the half and full marathons on a day where wind and rain were never far away.

In the half Philip Mulligan was first man home in 5th recording 1:37:12, Paul Galloway timed a respectable 1:52:11 in atrocious conditions to place 24th and 5 minutes later Nicola Downey arrived in 28th, 1:57:02. Clare Russell braved the weather to complete in 2:32:15 in 72nd.

In the full marathon Eamonn O’Reilly and Colin Walker weren’t far apart when finishing in 7th, 3:23:55 and 8th, 3:25:46 and Sean Nickell, following from his Last Man Standing efforts, was next in 11th with a time of 3:32:20. Donald Smith had a pb when he finished in 3:44:39, great running in the weather which gave him 18th place and then veteran marathon runner Robert Martin coped with the waves on one side, and cars sending flood water at the runners on the other side, to complete in 4:09:35, 36th.
