The first of this year’s Novosco race series kicked off in Downpatrick on Sunday. North Down athletes turned out in numbers to defend the Novosco series, or was it for the club Grand Prix points!

Rachel Gibson was the club highlight of the day managing a podium finish with 3rd place and recording 37:46.

Jessica Scott, running for Lagan College was next of the girls in on 43:22 and was paced around the circuit by Valerie McDonough who finished 6 seconds later in 43:28. Joanne Moran had a strong run to finish in 47:14 and training partner Jane Stevenson dealt with the hills admirably to cross the line in 48:06. Our 6th runner home was Lisa McMeechan beating last year’s effort by 2.5 minutes recording 48:16.

With over 900 finishers in the race Francis Marsh was once again our first man home in 9th place, 34:25 and was first O50 in the process. A little over a minute later Ben Caughers crossed the line with 35:39 and 20th position. Darren Hamilton pb’d in 35:48 and was 25th before David Massey clocked 37:40, some 3 minutes quicker than last years effort, to give him 49th spot.

Gavin Megaw, returning from injury, had a creditable time of 39:38 which was 86th and Philip Ballie was 99th on 40:36.
