Last one Standing

Mad, nutters, bonkers….just some of the words used to describe and add a bit of humour to those that undertook to run around Castle Ward for as long as they could within time limits. The course was a 4.2 mile loop and each runner had to complete each loop within one hour or face disqualification.

Helen Wyse, Trevor Patterson, Donald Smith and Sean Nickell were on the start line at midday on Saturday and set off on their first lap not knowing how long they would continue.

Trevor completed 29.4 miles, 7 laps, more than he has ever run before and three hours later, once the head torches were on, Helen, who swapped roles on this occasion with regular marathon/ultra runner Cara Jeffrey, retired having completed 42 miles, 10 laps. Regular distance runner Donald continued until midnight, 12 laps and 50.4 laps. Sean then continued for 25 hours totalling 105 miles, putting his wealth of marathon experience to great use.

Fantastic performances from all of our runners who showed great mental strength and incredible physical endurance. Amazingly the last two runners on the course completed 35 laps, a total of 147 miles.
