weekly roundup 01/03/26: Flahavan’s Primary School XC League, B2R Castlewellan, Run the Duff

Flahavan’s Primary School XC League, 27/02

The final of the Flahavan’s League took place on Friday at  Mallusk Playing Fields where primary school athletes from all across Northern Ireland competed against each other. 

Some of North Down AC’s youngest athletes were racing for their schools, led by Daly Seaton (Glencraig) in 3rd place with younger brother Casey (also Glencraig) immediately behind him. Harrison Mair (St Comgall’s) was 9th followed by Fox Neill (St Comgall’s) 30th, Nathan Shankleton (Glencraig) 66th and Thomas Close (St Comgall’s) 85th. St Comgall’s were 4th overall, the top team from Co Down, and Glencraig were 5th.

East Coast AC Junior XC Series, 01/03

Race 2 of the East Coast AC Junior XC series was held in the grounds of Larne Grammar school on Sunday morning, with more excellent results from some of the junior athletes, including some who had already raced hard in the primary school finals this week. 

Reeya McQuillan was 8th in the minor girls 1300m race in 8:11. In the boys race Casey Seaton won in 5:00 with Fox Neill 2nd in 5:13 and Soren Neill was 10th in 6:27.

Daly Seaton was 2nd in the junior boys 1750m race in 7:03 and Harrison Mair just missed a podium spot finishing 4th in 7:32. 

Caitlyn Dickenson won the senior girls 1750m event in 7:46 and Sebastian Mair won the boys race in 6:46.

Born 2 Run, Castlewellan, 28/02

The final race of Born 2 Run’s Run Forest Run trail race series was held in the beautiful grounds of Castlewellan Forest Park on Saturday. After recent poor weather runners were able to enjoy beautiful views of the castle and lake as they tackled the 5k and 10k routes.

Selina Patchett completed the 5k in 30:09 while Daniel Conway and Pat O’Driscoll raced the 10k in 50:25 and 1:25:25 respectively.

Run The Duff, 01/03

Several North Down AC runners took to the streets and country roads surrounding Carryduff for the inaugural Run the Duff 5k and 10k races.

Charlie Millar ran the 5k in 31:07. In th3 10k Kyle McLellan took 4th place in 35:09. David Massey 39:28, Philip Mulligan 42:09, Chris Couchman 42:28, Alan Hartley 43:17, Mitchell Brown 43:34, Christopher Ballentine 43:43 and Andrew Strutt 44:26 were followed by Fiona McVicar 45:19, Roberta Dornan 48:38, Beth Mulree 52:38, Michael Barr 56:32, and Jo Scott 58:45. Sarah Gibson continued her return from injury with a cautious 1:00:43. Nicole Bell ran 1:03:40 and pat O’Driscoll completed his second 10k inside 24 hours in 1:13:13.

Irish Senior Indoor Championships, 01/03

Several of North Down’s track athletes were racing at the National Indoor Arena in Dublin on Sunday; Jamie Moffatt finished 2nd in his 60m heat in 6.98, and posted an identical time to finish 5th in the semi-final. Harry Jackson was 7th in his heat in 7.41 and 134th in the long jump with a distance of 5.59m. Euan Monro ran 52.97 in his 400m heat.

In the womens’ 3000m Rachel Gibson clocked 10:24.51.

In other weekend racing, Luke McDowell took his 5k road PB down to 15:57 in Saturday’s (55th running of the) Alan Scally relays around Glasgow Green, running the 1st leg 5k for Glasgow Uni Hare & Hounds C team.
