Although there were fewer events than usual this week and many of North Down AC’s athletes were enjoying warm weather training on holiday as well as at home, those who competed put in some excellent performances, particularly in the unaccustomed heat!
Thomas Patterson was racing on the track on Wednesday over 800m at the Watford open meet, putting down another solid 1:58.8, close to his PB.
On Sunday Matthew Norman and Sam Lloyd headed down the motorway to Termonfeckin for the Co Louth town’s annual half marathon. The triangular 2 lap course followed a route between Drogheda and Termonfeckin and along the northern bank of the River Boyne. Matthew finished 14th in 1:25:57 and Sam was 51st in 1:34:24.

Another 12th July race was the Kilclief Ben Dearg GAC Coastal Run with 5k and 10k options from the local Gaelic club. Mickael Le Nu raced in the 10k where he came 2nd in a PB of 34:50.

Several of NDAC’s younger athletes were in action at the National Juvenile Age Group Championships in Tullamore over the weekend, having qualified through provincial meets to participate in the Irish national championships.
Sophie Rankin ran a strong race in the U15 1500m, holding PB pace until a stitch slowed her down and she finished 13th out of 20 in 5:06.64,
Also at U15, Poppy Earl ran in the 250m hurdles winning her heat in 38.26 and finishing 2nd in the final in a PB of 37.31.
Jason Smith was 4th in the U17 5kg shot put with a throw of 12.70m.
Harrison Jamison ran a Season’s Best time of 22.75 to take the bronze medal in the U19 200m final, following his 23.56 heat.
In the U19 Long Jump Roger McMullan won silver with a jump of 6.57m.
The U15 4x100m relay team comprising Devon Wicks, Jessica Fowles, Jean Robinson and Poppy Earl won heat 1 in 53.21 however as times from all heats were combined for the final result they finished 7th overall.
