weekly roundup 19/10/25: Galloper Thompson 5k, Great South Run, Saintfield 5k & 10k, Amsterdam Marathon & Half Marathon, Palma 10k & Half Marathon, National Autumn Open XC

Galloper Thompson 5k, 17/10/25

North Down AC were well represented at the newest race on the local running calendar, the Galloper Thompson 5k in North Belfast. Promising spooky vibes and frightfully good fun and named for the local legend of a headless horseman, all of the NDAC runners kept moving quickly until they returned to Grove Park for post race refreshments. First club runner home was Nick Irvine in 19th place in 17:46 closely followed by Sebastian Mair in 21st in 17:56. Harrison Mair crossed the line in 20:10 ahead of Sarah Gibson 20:46, Andrew Muir 24:17, Michael Cunningham 24:57, Joanne Elliott 28:08, Phil Archer 29:10 and Stefan Butler 29:18. Sinead Mooney and Nicole Bell both recorded 30:43, 3 seconds ahead of Christopher Ballentine and Marion Beattie who both finished in 30:46. Selina Hatchett 31:33, Lorraine Lowry 31:37, Charlie Miller 32:20, Christine Hannah 32:58 and Courtney Thompson 23:13 completed the NDAC line up.

Great South Run, 19/10/25

Paula Simpson took on the Great South Run in tough wet and windy conditions in Portsmouth, on Sunday morning. She completed the 10 mile race in 1:28:57.

 

Amsterdam Marathon and Half Marathon 19/10/25

With almost 60000 participants across all the events, Amsterdam was the busiest of all the races involving club members this week; Jamie Toole ran the 7.5k race on Saturday 27:13 before taking on pacing duties for a work colleague on Sunday in the marathon, coming in at 3:41:22 .Johnny Elliot ran the marathon and got a PB of 2:43:23. Andy Nixon completed the marathon in 2:49:28 while Ben Jenkins ran an excellent debut marathon in 3:39:08. Cameron Jenkins ran the half marathon in 1:55:10.

Saintfield 5k & 10k 19/10/25

Saintfield was another wet and windy location for North Down runners on Sunday afternoon, however all their recent training in similar conditions paid off for the NDAC runners in both races through the rolling countryside around Saintfield.

Carter Rolston was 3rd in the 5k in 17:52 , a new PB, with Sebastian Mair 4th in 18:49.

Sarah Connolly won the womens’ race in 21:43 finishing 11th overall.

In the 10k there were more podium spots for club members with Jamie Coulter-Smyth taking the win in 32:27. Aaron Beggs joined him on the podium finishing 3rd in 36:06. Declan Magee was 6th in 37:46 and David Massey finished in 39:25.

Fiona McQuillan was 3rd woman in 41:57 followed by Ben Macrory 42:58, Sarah Gibson 43:34, Stephanie GRAHAM, 44:37, Clair Quigley 46:25, Heather Beattie 47:35, June McMinn 52:55, Beth Mulree 53:23, Wendy Neely 53:07, Michael Hall 52:21 and Claire Scott 55:52.

Palma 10k & Half Marathon 19/10/25

While most of their clubmates were shivering and soaking in cold, wet and windy conditions at home, several North Down athletes wondered how they were going to cope with a half marathon or 10k in the Mallorcan sunshine! 18 club members joined many other athletes from local clubs for a long weekend in Palma. All coped admirably with the heat, recording excellent times and enjoying the essential post-race rehydration under clear blue skies!

National Autumn Open XC, 19/10/25

Tara McDonough ran in the National Autumn Open XC in Abbotstown (Dublin) and finished 20th in the senior women’s race.
