NI & Ulster Road Relay Championships

It was a successful day for North Down AC at Victoria Park for the annual road relays, the 8th time Orangegrove AC have hosted the event.

The Mens Masters team of Francis Marsh, Alex Donald, James Budde and Stuart Donald won their race which was particulary impressive with James not fully fit and Stuart struggling with a cold.  The accumulated 4 x 2 mile winning time was 42:32.

The ladies Senior team had their work cut out as they finished runners up to a QUB team that broke the record by 1 minute.  Sarah Grant, Jodi Smith and Rachel Gibson were clear in 2nd place and were in fact closer to the record breakers, Queens, than the third place finishers as they completed the 3 x 2 miles in 35:02.

The Senior mens team of Craig McMeechan, Jordan Stokes, Thomas Patterson and Jamie McMeechan fought hard to finish in 7th spot recording 42:02 for their efforts.

The ladies Masters A team of Clair Quigley, Clare Kennedy and Pamela Phillips were the first of our eight Masters teams to finish in 10th place clocking 41:08.

There were further medals for the club in the earlier age group races. Lucy Cheatley was 3rd in the U13 girls and in the same race Naomi Dunne was 10th and Kate Fenlon 24th.  Tara McDonough had an excellent 2nd place finish in the U15 girls race after having played a hockey match and Niamh Fenlon followed in 12th.  In the U17 boys Jakob Swann was our only runner and managed a decent 6th place finish. The U17 girls included Megan Briggs, who was 12th and Bryanna Catney, 13th.  In the primary schools race Isaac Dunne,  Christopher Belshaw, Lauren Cheatley and Zoe Kirk represented the club.
