North Down AC was represented at the Lisbon Half Marathon on Sunday 8th October; Dean Varley and Paul Kennedy enjoyed the beautiful route from the Vasco da Gama Bridge, currently the longest bridge in Europe, to the city centre where half marathon runners joined marathon runners at the finish. Dean was the first club runner to finish in 1:23:03 with Paul finishing in 2:19:18. The half marathon was Paul’s “cool down” having spent the previous few days cycling coast to coast across Spain through the Pyrenees! All the runners had a bit of a cool down – unseasonably warm temperatures meant the organisers made a late decision to move the race start from 10:30 to 9am and 7am for the marathon, whilst arranging for the local fire brigade to help dowse runners along the course!
