The return of cold, autumnal weather provided the incentive for several North Down AC runners to swap chilly local conditions for the sunshine of Mallorca to take on the Palma Half Marathon and 9k races on Sunday 15th October although a welcome cooling rain shower towards the end of the races for most runners provided a bit of relief and a reminder of home!
Mags Mathieson was first to finish in the 9k, breaking the hour in 59:49 with Gordon and Heather Matchett finishing with identical gun times although Heather’s 1:00:27 chip time pipped Gordon’s by 2 seconds!
In the half marathon Philip Mulligan was the first runner from the club to finish in 1:33:15 ahead of Stephen Wise in 1:40:47. Claire Scott led the ladies back to the finish in 1:54:44 ahead of Lynne Kerr who ran her first half marathon in over 5 years in 2:03:56. Paul Kennedy ran his second half marathon in a week in 2:10:55. followed by Hannah Dunne 2:19:09, Alison Wise 2:21:11, Fiona Towell 2:29:34 and Ian McCreary 2:30:49.
