The final race of the year for most runners was the Expleo Festival of Running in the Titanic Quarter on Sunday 31st December. With 3k, 5k and 10k options on flat courses these races provided a great opportunity to burn off some excess Christmas calories or in the case of a few North Down AC athletes, stretch their legs out after a tough run at the Castlewellan Christmas Cracker the previous day.
First up was the 3k race where Alan McConnell finished 3rd in 10:35 closely followed by Carter Rolston in 4th in 10:39.
Sarah Gibson was the first of the North Down finishers in the 10k in 42:08. Brian Geddis was next to complete the 10k in 42:32. Michael Cunningham was the third NDAC runner to cross the line in 48:39 followed by Heather Beattie in 49:12 while Paula Simpson ran a conservative 56:12 after the Cracker and ahead of an upcoming series of races. Helen Beattie was the next finisher in 1:02:53 and Pat O’Driscoll completed the club’s 10k representation in 1:08:27.
