Autumn has finally arrived, after what passed for summer, and the cross country season is upon us once more! The Palace Demesne in Armagh was the setting for the first XC race of the season, the TJ McElmeel Cup on Sunday 24th September. Several North Down AC members brushed the remains of last year’s mud off their spikes and headed down to Orchard County.
In the junior races Daly Seaton and Harrison Mair were 2nd and 3rd in the U9 boy’s race and Robin Anderson came 3rd in the U11 race. Carter Rolston and Sebastian Mair were 4th and 5th respectively in the U13 race.
Oliver Playfair was 4th in the U18 5k race in 19:11 while in the senior women’s race Sarah Gibson 23:12, Jodi Smith 23:21 and Claire Scott 26:36 all put in fine performances over an increasingly muddy 5k route.
Terry Eakin 28:01 and Pat O’Driscoll 40:23 ensured NDAC were represented in the Masters V60+ categories and David McKeague 31:13, Alasdair Mair 34:11 and Tim Cooke 36:54 took on the senior mens’ 7.5k race.
*edited to add, I think some junior girls ran too, but they don’t appear in the results. I’ll update the post if I get any other details.
