North Down was represented at the national relay championships in Raheny last weekend, with both teams performing well, but the ladies the undoubted stars of the show. The men’s race comprised four legs in a mileage format of 2-1-3-2 with Michael Dyer (10:27) getting the team off to good start, before handing on to Francis Marsh (5:02) for a rapid second. Craig McMeechan posted a competitive 15:27 for his three miles amongst the best of national talent, before handing on to brother Jamie who brought the team home in 10:40 for the last two miles and a respectable 13th team overall.
In the ladies race, which followed a format of 1-2-1, junior member Murphy Miller got the trio off to a great start, posting 5:30 for the first mile to leave the team well placed in 6th. Rachel Gibson has been in great form recently and managed to move up to 3rd by the end of her two mile leg (11:10), before Katie Moore (5:30) closed out a fine collective effort by maintaining the podium spot and another outstanding national medal for the ladies.
