Downpatrick hosted 3 separate 5k races based n the predicted speed of the athletes, as well as a series of childrens’ races beforehand, on Friday 28th July. Each 5k race comprised 7 1/2 laps of a flat, fast circuit around the town centre. North Down AC had runners in each race. First off was the over 22 minute race with a strictly enforced 21:30 minimum time. Donald Smith ran his fastest 5k for several years to take 1st place and Paula Simpson finished in 22:38 with Claire Charleton completing the course in 26:06.
Next up was the elite sub-17 minute race where Nick Irvine was the sole club representative. Nick finished in 17:10.
Carter Rolston was the first club member to finish Race 3, the 17-22 minute race. He was also the fastest male junior in 18:21. Stuart Anderson finished in 19:30 and Sarah Gibson ran 20:21.
