District A Schools, Track and Field

A plethora of junior club members competed at the District ‘A’ Schools T&F Championships (Seniors & Inters) at a sun drenched but slightly cool, blustery Mary Peters on Wednesday 1st May.
 
Inter Girls 

 
Katie Kimber (Sullivan) won silver & bronze in the sprints, finishing 

3rd in the 

100m & 2nd in the 200m in 12.92s & 26.73s. 

Yet again, Megan Drummond (Glenlola) won the long jump with a new PB of 5.16, before finishing 4th in the 200m in 27.41s. Megan Briggs (St Columbanus) ran a strong 44.10s to win silver in the 300m, just ahead of Casey Dawson (Strathearn) who ran a PB 45.86s to take bronze. Casey followed this with 28.02s for 5th in the 200m and was then part of the Strathearn 4x100m relay team that won bronze. Rose McGreevy (Glenlola) ran a 12.66s PB and was a comfortable winner of the 80mH and cleared 1.43m for silver in the high jump. She then joined Megan Drummond as half of the Glenlola 4x100m relay team that won silver. Glenlola also won the Inter girls’ team trophy. Amy Ellison(Strathearn) earned an excellent silver in the 800m with 2:40.65 and was also 4th in the hammer with 22.07m. Tara McDonough (Sullivan) sliced over 10sec off her 1500m PB  when she crossed the line in 4:55.65 for bronze. In a very competitive field, Erin Kennedy (Strathearn) took silver in the shot (3kg) and was also 6th in the hammer (3kg) with a best throw of 20.71m

 
Inter Boys 
Jonny Moore (Sullivan) was the only medalist in the Inter boys age group where he claimed gold in the long jump with a leap of 5.66m which was followed by 5th in the 100m in a time of 11.70s.
Senior Girls  
Despite a recent thigh niggle, Louise Canning (Glenlola) took gold in the 100m in time of 13.21s & was a member of their winning 4x100m relay team. Rachel McCann(Sullivan) followed her recent indoor success with emphatic wins in both the 200m & 400m with times of 25.23s (PB) & 59.00s respectively while Aimee Stitt (Strathearn) finished 3rd & 2nd in the same events with a PB of 26.51s in the 200m & 66.04 in the 400m. Aimee had a particularly busy afternoon as she was also a member of the Strathearn 4x100m team that took bronze and the 4x300m team that won gold. Murphy Miller (Strathearn) was also a member of the successful Strathearn4x300m relay team, however, earlier in the day she produced a dominant display of front running in the 800m when she led from gun to tape, taking gold in 2:19.26.Strathearn won the Senior girls’ team trophy. Amy Kimber (Sullivan) won bronze in the javelin (600g) with 23.97m and once again dominated the discus (1kg) taking gold with a best effort of 31.10m.
 
Senior Boys
On his first outing of the season, Aaron Sexton (Bangor Grammar) broke his own district 100m record on his way to completing another 100m/200m double in 10.71s & 21.47 before leading off the BGS team that won the 4x100m relay. Luke Adair(SERC) set two PBs on his way to finishing 2nd in the 100m & 5th in the 200m with times of 11.83 & 24.52 respectively while Isaac Hart (Sullivan) took on the challenge of the 200m/400m double and was not only rewarded with two PBs (23.33s/52.39s), but also two bronze medals. Troy McConville (SERC) was the only competitor in the 110mH and, although still new to the higher hurdles & longer event, produced a silky smooth performance to record an excellent time of 15.45s. Cameron Jenkins (Bangor Grammar) finished 3rd in the 1500m with a time of 5:21.93 and, along with John Ewing took bronze in the 4x400m relay. In warm humid conditions, Jack Logan (Campbell College) finished 3rd in the 5000m with acreditable time 17:52.87. Bangor Grammar won the Senior boys’ team trophy.
