Another school track and field event took place on Saturday 20th April between Glenlola, Regent House and Strathearn. Caitlyn Dickenson and Abbie Small (Glenlola) took part in the 800m, which was a combined year 9, 10, 11 and 12 race. Despite being in year 9, Caitlyn was 1st in 2.44 and Abbie was 3rd.
Later in the day some of North Down AC’s fastest runners were racing at the NBH 5k on Saturday, serving as a season opener or 5k track debut for many:
Men’s A race: Craig McMeechan 14:46.2. Men’s B race: Finn Johnson 16:07.68. Both committed early to the pack pace and had to work hard to bring it home with increasing fatigue. Men’s C race: Daniel Dines 15:58.25 pb. Men’s E race Josh McDowell 16:58.77 pb, Nick Irvine 17:11.38, Dean Varley 17.16.95, Alan McConnell 18.04.19. All the athletes had solid runs and will use the lessons learned from this event to develop their race fitness, tactics and pacing as the season progresses.
