The picturesque grounds of the Montalto Estate near Ballynahinch formed the setting for a series of trail races on Saturday 19th August. The 5k and 10k races organised by Gatehouse Events were followed at 8pm by a series of endurance challenges of 3 hours, 6 hours and 12 hours. North Down AC’s Emma Hegarty raced in the 10k, completing 2 laps of the undulating course over farm lanes, forest trails and estate roads offering stunning views of Montalto House the lake and beautiful estate buildings in 1:02:48. Tracy McKittrick and Donald Smith raced in the 6 hour and 12 hour challenge respectively where the goal was to complete as many 5k laps as possible within the time limit. Tracy completed 9 laps /45k and claimed the prize for first female in her first official ultramarathon. Donald completed 16 laps / 80k finishing in 3rd place.
