Officers, Committee, & Club Captains 2025

Officers

Mark Weir: President

A member of North Down since the early 80’s I was honoured to be selected as President of the club I have been representing since I was a boy in 2024, it’s 50th year.

These days I can be seen more in the mountains and competing in Ultra events as previous track exploits disappear in the rear-view mirror.

We welcome all abilities here at NDAC, all levels of experience across numerous disciplines; from hammer to trail running, C25K to Marathon and the rest.

“I would finally like to say a big thank you to coaches, volunteers, committee members and athletes who make the club what it is today.”

Lynn Kerr: Vice President

I joined North Down Athletic Club in the mid 1990s. During this time I have been lady captain, LIRF, level 2 coach. I also spend a number of years as a technical official for ANI, firstly as a track judge, then as photo finish operator.

My running preference has always been for longer distances, from 10k, half marathon and have completed 9 marathons with a PB of 3:33.

I continue to support the club as much as I can although have relinquished my coaching qualifications and enjoy being told what to do at New Beginnings.

Roger Sexton: Vice President & Coach Coordinator

I competed for NDAC over 100m, 200m & 400m, as a junior athlete in the 1980’s and represented NI at both Junior & Senior international level, before retiring in 1993. I returned to competition as a master’s athlete and got involved in coaching when my son joined the club, in 2012, and currently hold the M40 & M45 100m & 200m NI records. I’ve been the sprints coach since 2014 and have held various committee positions since 2017 but am currently the Coaches’ Representative and one of the Vice-Presidents.

Jamie Stevenson: Chairperson

Phil Archer: Vice Chairperson

My running journey began in Jan 2023 when I joined the NDAC c25k program in a bid to lose weight and improve my overall health. After completing my first 5k at Bangor Parkrun, and getting bitten by the running bug, I joined the club in May 23 and haven’t looked back since.

Running has brought some amazing friends into my life, and I look forward to meeting more. Here’s to many more years of running and socialising 🙂

Abby Andrews: Hon Secretary

I joined NDAC in 2017 to get more out of my running than taking myself out for a 5k a couple of times a week. I have really enjoyed having more structure to my training, entering races, and meeting lots of lovely people! And give me trail and cross country over road any day.

Nicola Stevenson: Assistant Secretary

Gerry O’Boyle: Hon Treasurer

This is my fifth (and final) year as ndac treasurer. I love the club and I’ve got to know so many great people and made such good friends over the years. Can I quote Jessie Owens ”I always loved running. It was something you could do by yourself and under your own power”. My wife, Maureen is also from Galway and has given me four lovely sons. I set up my own business in 2009 called O’Boyle Accounting & Taxation – based in Bingham Street in Bangor.

Eight years ago, I began a crazy project, running around Ireland, strictly by the coast. So far, I’ve completed 4,344km or 2,699miles. I started doing this to raise funds for Clifton Special School in Bangor where my son was a student. Now I’m supporting special schools in other Irish provinces. Quite a few NDAC runners have joined me on the coastal run. See blog for story so far https://cliftoncoastalrun.blogspot.com/

Hannah Dunne: Welfare Officer

NDAC member from 2015 who loves cross country.

Welfare Officer second time round.

Loved how North down as inspired so many kids.

Committee Members

David McKeague

After getting back into running during lockdown, I rejoined the club in 2022.

Since then I’ve developed a preference for the trails, mud and generally anything off-road.

It’s been great to get back into racing and meeting everyone again – both old faces and new.

Hopefully see you out running or on a start line somewhere.

Hi my name is Claire Louise Scott . I’m currently a committee member and ladies Captain. I come from a triathlon background but am currently concentrating on running. I particularly love cross country season in winter and the hill and dale series in spring / summer.
(I have 2 grown up kids who unfortunately don’t run at all and think I’m mad)
