The Waterside Half Marathon in Derry/Londonderry on Sunday 3rd September was the setting for the 2023 NI & Ulster Half Marathon Championship. 4 North Down AC runners joined almost 1500 other half marathon runners for the 13.1 mile loop from Ebrington Square through St Columb’s Park to the Gransha Park grounds, passing through Strathfoyle before reaching the highest point of the course at the Foyle Bridge before eventually making their way back through the city and crossing the River Foyle once more over the iconic Peace Bridge and racing back up to the finish line.
Kevin Harkin was the first of the NDAC runners to finish, in 36th place overall, in 1:23:25. Sarah Gibson’s excellent form continued with a new half marathon PB of 1:30:21 and 1st F50. Noel Eager was the next North Down runner back to Ebribgton Square in 1:38:21 and Paula Simpson ran strongly with a well paced 1:53:45.
