Mallusk 5 Miler

Billed as ‘perfectly flat, apart from the big hill’ the Mallusk Harriers delivered another well organised five mile road race which saw an impressive 341 0f the 350 entrants make the start line, despite traffic issues and the inclement weather in the area. Setting off from outside the Academy Social Club on the edge of Mallusk industrial estate, the four North Down representatives got the big hill out of the way first, with a punishing first mile and a half up the Sealstown Road. Slight respite was provided by a downhill section along the Boghill Road, before the loop was completed by the Hydepark Road and a short finishing section back to the social club.

Cliff McCausland led home the Bangor quartet, 40:20 placing him 136th on the night. James Barr was next in 45:34, whilst Paula Simpson (51:47) and Noreen McCausland (51:54) crossed in quick succession, with the rain holding off just long enough to prevent soggy trainers on the way home.
