Run for the Hills Marathon, Ballycastle, 05/08/23

2 North Down AC runners took part in We Run Wild NI’s ‘Run for the Hills’ trail marathon between Waterfoot and Ballycastle on Saturday 5th August. No stranger to trail and mountain running, and having recently completed an off-road 50k training run, Tracy McKittrick made her marathon debut on the hilly route involving more than 1100m of ascent from sea level at Waterfoot, climbing past waterfalls in Glenariff , through forests and over muddy bogland climbing Trostan and Slieveanorra and enjoying views beyond Rathlin to the Scottish islands of Islay and Jura before eventually descending through Ballycastle forest into the town. Donald Smith returned to his comfort zone of trail running after 2 5k races in the previous few days. Donald completed the marathon in 5:39:45 and Tracy finished in 7:21:05.
