A busy weekend for ND athletes

Over the weekend period there were eight venues throughout Northern Ireland, and surrounding small isles, where our runners could potentially turn up.

On Friday night Darren Hamilton made an appearance in Portrush to finish 13th in the their 5 mile road race, crossing the line in a respectable 30:18. Also on Friday night and as part of the Strangford festival the town hosted a 10K road race which James Barr raced in and finished 41st clocking 50:11.

The annual Rathlin run was staged on Saturday with a 5K and 10 mile option and Helen Byers and Keith Gilmore took the boat trip across to Rathlin to compete in the 10 mile event. Keith completed the course in 1:19:25 and 22nd place while Helen recorded 1:26:25 in 44th position.

Also on Saturday Mary Peters track hosted the last major track event of the season with the Team Trophy. There were wins for Holly Brannigan – 400M, Rachel Gibson – 800M, Alan Kennedy – Long Jump and Laura Saulters – Triple Jump while Molly Longstaff competed in both the 100M and Long Jump and Ollie Wakefield in the Long Jump. Nick Irvine and Stefan Yathindran had good runs in the 800M as did Jamie Budde and Dennis Scott in the 3000M after Craig McMeechan had finished 2nd in the 1500M. Both the women and mens teams finished 4th and both with 31 points, over 100 points behind the winners of each category, Lagan Valley and City of Derry who interestingly had coverage, and frequent multiple coverage, in almost all of the events.

Further results will be posted when they become available including Armagh marathon, Carrick 10K and Firmus Energy meet.
