Falkirk International & Coleraine

Five club runners competed for Northern Ireland in Falkirk where the British and Irish Masters Cross Country International was held in poor weather. Men from 35 to 54 competed over 8K and Brian Smith and Norman Lellyett were 120th and 126th in 33.58 and 35.32 min. Brian placed 13th in the M60 race and was 2nd Northern Ireland runner. Due to strength in the NI M60 group, Norman dropped into the M55 group where he was also 13th and 3rd NI finisher. M65 men ran over 6K at the same time as the womens race. Hilary Kernaghan were 83rd and 90th in 28.50 and 29.05 min and were 19th and 20th F40, 3rd and 4th for NI. Hugh Young was 116th in31.35 and was 14th M65, 1st Northern Ireland. The best Northern Ireland result was by Jimmy Reid of Springwell AC who won the M70 race.
The local action was in Coleraine for the Pegasus AC Cross Country and the weather was also foul. Nicola Simpson had the best result with 2nd in the 5K Junior Womens race in 17.04 min. Her brother Thomas was 4th U18 boy over 5K in 15.04 and Leigh McWha was 5th in the 3K U16 race in 14.16. In the combined open and vets race over 8K was 23rd in 30.57 for 2nd M45 and Fred Murdock was 36th in 34.03 for 1st M60.
