Good Mens Showing in North West Championships

On Saturday City of Derry AC hosted the fifth race of the Athletics NI XC League 2013/14, the North West XC, at Gransha Grounds, Derry. Excellent logistics by the North Down men ensured a full league team of 12 athletes running embellished by a 3^rd place finish to City of Derry and Foyle Valley in both the 6 to count North West Championship and the 4 to count ANI league. James Budde, Francis Marsh, Dennis Scott and Stephen Wylie plus the maximum scoring participants took us to 12 points in the ANI league and in the North West were augmented by Mark Weir and either Corey Brown or Nick Irvine who finished close together on a split decision. In the categories, Francis won at M45, David Seaton and Katie Moore were 2^nd M65 and 2^nd F19, Mark 3^rd M40 and Tony Wall 4^th M55.

Another good run saw James in 7^th overall and Dennis had his best run of the season so far just behind Francis. It was a welcome change for cross country to have everyone racing together and to have all the men in the same team. Juniors Corey, Ciaran Farren and Katie were also in the teams. Katie had her best run of the season but was the only North Down female  present. Despite the excellent hospitality, Illness, work and above all the effect of close proximity to Chrismas on women with a family all conspired against travel leaving a clear field for the Northern clubs.

The age group race results have  not yet been added but in the U14 race, sisters Jessica and Anna Scott. Congratulations to Jessica who came in 1st while Anna would have been about 7th or 8th.
