Good Racing at “Festival of Miles”

Elite Ladies Podium (from NIRunning. co.uk)

There were 110 or so runners of all ages and abilities at Mary Peters on Tuesday evening at a Joint BMC-NIRunning Featival of Miles, the 3rd in an annual series. An appropriate date as it was 60 years to the day since Bannister first broke the 4 minute mile. There were no sub 4’s this evening though Michael Dyer did his duty as pacemaker in the elite mile but by then a pleasant evening weatherwise had gone bad well before the 10th race. No hang-ups from the Marathon Relay Squad (those that could still run). Rachel Gibson won the Elite Ladies race in 5:13.49 from Jessica Craig in 5:16.83. In fact North Down had 1st, 2nd and 5th fastest ladies, Francis Marsh and Craig McMeechan were by far the fastest Master and fastest Junior with Stephen Wylie and Dennis Scott 6th and 7th overall.
