Indoor Age Group Championships – Day 1

The Northern Ireland  and Ulster Age Group Indoor Championships are taking  place over the weekend at the Meadowbank Arena in Magherafelt. There were 4 podium places on the track for North Down athletes on the Saturday in the 60m events and 3 more in the field. Oliver  Wakefield was a convincing winner of the U17 boys event, winning his heat in 7.47 sec and the final in 7.49.  Late in the day, Olivia Cumming added another gold when she won the U17 girls 300m in an outright pb of 44.34 sec.  Saskia Greer took silver in a straight final at U18 girls level in 8.45 and in another straight  final, Luke Adair was 2nd U16 boy in 8.33. Jonny Moore was 5th in the U14 boys final after winning his heat in in 8.47. Molly Longstaff was 3rd in her U16 event in 8.77 and 5th in the final in 8.79. In the field Oliver Wakefield made the day a double by winning the long jump in 5.99m, an indoor pb. Jonny Moore got 2nd in his long jump with 4.34m to complete a good all round day. Molly Longstaff collected a bronze in the shot with 7.65m.

The first 4 in each event qualify for All Ireland Finals to be held in Athlone on the weekend of 21st/22nd March and on Saturday 28th March.
