The GloHealth National Senior Championships took place over the weekend at the Athlone Indoor Arena. Rachel Gibson and Jessica Craig have both had excellent indoor seasons and did the 1500m at the Athlone season climax. On Saturday, both were in the same heat along with Newccastle AC’s Kerry O’Flaherty and Emma Mitchell from Banbridge. The County Down girls finished in positions 2 to 5 with Kerry 2nd in 4:41.62 min, Emma 2nd in 4:41.83, Rachel 4th in 4:42.70 and Jessica 5th in 4:46.97. With the 1st 4 progressing, Rachel was in Sunday’s final but Jessica missed out. In the final on SAunday, Kerry won in 4:16.49, Emma was 6th in 4:32.62 and Rachel 11th in 4:41.55. Could be a good County Down lineup sometime at County level.
