The club held the second of the North Down Open series of track and field events on Tuesday evening with excellent weather conditions, despite an earlier poor afternoon. There were not too many younger athletes with Ulster Schools upcoming and the exam season but there was plenty for the seniors who sometimes get starved of competition at this time of year. There was some excellent racing and throwing with several pbs. For the home team, Rachel Gibson had a long-awaited pb at 800m with 2:13.68 min with Jessica Craig a 3 year best. Barrie Atkinson of East Down and Dennis Scott were 1 and 2 in the 3000m, pushing one another to substantial pb’s. In the field City of Lisburn’s Andrew Barkley celebratedhis European Youth Olympic selection with another discus pb, extending his NI junior record to 52.33m.
