North Down Retain Relay Title

[Not a valid template]North Down retained the Senior Mens” title in Castle Park at their own Cross Country Relay promotion but were pushed hard by a two man Abbey team. They also retained the U15 Boys title. City of Lisburn also had double success winning the Senior and Junior Ladies events while Lagan Valley won the Vets race.

Jordan Neil edged out Simon Taylor on the opening 1 mile lap with the fastest short leg time of 4:52 minutes. Abbey responded on the 2 mile second leg  with the fastest long leg time of 10:11 min by Owen Carleton just ahead of James Budde. Francis Marsh broke the deadlock in the second lap of the third leg running 10:23 min leaving Robin Brown to bring the team home in 5:05 min. North Down”s “B” Team of Juniors Jordan Stokes, Thomas Simpson, Kris McKee and Chris Denny were headed by the retread “C” Team of George Bell, Matthew McMullan, Tony Wall and John Quiery. The U15 Boys Team ran well with Mark Armstrong fastest in 5:40 min with good backing from Michael Donaldson and Glen Willis.

[Not a valid template]A strong City of Lisburn squad won the Ladies Race and were led by Commonwealth Games finalist Kelly Reid who had the fastest leg time with 5:13 min. Their U15 team trailed a good Willowfield  team for two legs before being brought home by a storming run by Ciara Mageean with 5:42 minutes. North Down ran two Senior Ladies teams with Nicola Simpson, Lauren Scott and Jessica Craig finishing ahead of their younger clubmates Clare Scott, Leigh McWha and Stacey Johnston.

The Vets Race had to feature a runner over 40, over 50 and over 55 and was won by Lagan Valley after Frank Sharkey opened with the fastest leg of 5:10 min and were brought home by Eric Montgomery and Terry Eakin. North Down “A” were runners-up with George Bell, Tony Wall and Norman Lellyett. The “B” team was John Quiery, Hugh Young and Ken Hawtin and the “C” team was John Monaghan, Roy Graham and Pat O”Driscoll.
