78 North Down runners were part of the 900+ strong field that competed along the Bangor coast line on Saturday morning. So it was a great achievement from the club that the men’s team finished 3rd and the ladies had two teams on the podium, 2nd and 3rd.
Craig McMeechan ran with the lead group throughout the race and the group went through 5k in 15:45. Ben Branagh managed to complete the second half in roughly 14:10 to record the fastest time around this version of the Bangor 10k course finishing in 29:54. Craig completed in a pb of 30:46 which amounted to a negative split of 15:01 and placed him 6thoverall, 5th in the Championship race.
Dale Murray continued his fine form with a pb finish of 33:21 which put him in 20th spot. Gareth Watton and James Budde were company for each other as they finished in 24th and 25th with times of 33:38 and 33:42 and Jamie McMeechan followed in 29th, 34:08. Francis Marsh was next in 32nd timed at 34:39 and was once again rewarded with an age category win.
Jessica Craig won the ladies race with a new course record of 34:39 and was backed up by Sarah Gibson who recorded 42:20, Clair Quigley 42:39 and Lisa Tomalin 43:42. This placed the ladies in 2nd team place behind Victoria Pk and Connswater.
The ladies “B” team were good enough for 3rd place and was made up from Hollie Massey who also won the female junior prize, timing 43:51, Lindsay Doulton 44:09, Rebekah Laffin 44:26 and Lucia Williams 44:46.
