Young Atletes League Round 3

There was a much better club turnout for the third round of the YAL. held midweek in ideal conditions at Mary Peters. This round is pitched more at the younger athletes with U17 events reduced in the exam season. For the first time this season North Down fielded viable teams across all six age groups. Results were healthy particularly as some of the bigger names were rested and it was the U13 boys who led the way.

Matthew Hamilton and Michael McComb had a double double and were first "A" and "B" at both U13 100m and long jump, Lewis Atkinson and Louis Campion did the same at discus, Ryan Crossman was second at high jump on countback, Jordan Williams and Glen Willis scored well at 800m and the boys won the relay. The U15 boys had two more double wins from Mark Armstrong and Daniel McAllen at 800m and from Karl Lamont and Gareth Irvine at javelin and they were 2nd in the relay. The U17 boys had no wins but had lots of seconds and nothing lower than third.

The girls were less experienced and not as dominant but they competed well, did the events, familiar or not, and scored across the board including all relays. Rachel Berry and Laura Forester had a double win in the U13 shot and it was good to have so many out for the first time and getting good points.
