Ards 5 mile Road Race

The annual Ards 5 miler took place on Friday night and 17 North Down athletes took to the Portaferry Road, some after completing the arduous Crawfordsburn trail race on Wednesday.

One of those hardy souls was David Massey who finished in 9th spot in a time of 31:17 and he was followed by another Crawfordsburn finisher, Andrew Barrett in 32:23 which was 16th. Steve Wise enjoyed the relative flat after the Wednesday night trails to finish in 33:17, 23rd and Keith Gilmore was 34th completing in 34:32.

Roberta Dornan was our first female in and finished 36th, and was 2nd overall female in the race. Joanne Moran put her coaching credentials to good use and completed the course in 38:41 which would have placed her 6th or so in the female results and training partner Jane Stevenson had a good outing when she finished 20 seconds or so behind Jo in 39:02. Valerie Blayney, who also warmed up with racing around Crawfordsburn, hit the line in 43:09 which provided her with 108th overall and would undoubtedly have placed her high up in her age category.
