The NI & Ulster Combined Event Age Group Championships

The multi events took place amid mixed conditions at Mary Peters on Sat 25th & Sun 26th August.

In the Junior decathlon, Troy McConville was stepping up for the first time to the U20 hurdle & throwing specifications but was clearly in good form as he got off to a flying start in the 100m, setting a pb of 11.74s. There were solid performances in the long jump (6.16m) and the heavier 6kg shot (11.01m) before disaster struck in the high jump when he failed to clear his opening height. Despite this, Troy went on to record another pb in the last event of day 1 when he ran an excellent 52.52s for the 400m.  Day 2 began with further good performances in the 110mH (15.85s) & 1.75kg discus (28.16m), however he then retired from the competition.
In the U17 girls heptathlon, Megan Drummond and guest athlete Susan Nestor of Nenagh Olympic battled it out over the first 6 disciplines and thanks to superb wins in the 200m (27.17s) & LJ (5.10m), Megan held a slim lead going into final event. Unfortunately, the Co. Tipperary athlete was a class apart in the 800m as nobody was able to match her pace over the two laps. She won by over 30sec to seal the victory, however, although Megan finished second, she still took the NI & Ulster title with 3303pts.
Rose McGreevy & Sophie Hoey were consistently in the top 5 in most events of the U15 girls Penathlon. Rose eventually finished 4th overall but took the NI & Ulster bronze medal with a total score of 2249pts while Sophie was one place behind, finishing 5th overall with a total score of 2074pts.

NDAC athletes made up half of the field in the U13 girls pentathlon, but it was Anna Cousins who finished highest with a total score of 1544pts for 4th place just ahead of Lucy Cheatley in 5th with 1527pts. Hollie McGuigan finished 8th (1305pts), Stephanie Bell was 9th (1274pts), Tilly Tweedie finished 10th (1146pts), Morgan Wilson was 11th (1141pts), Emma Stranaghan finished 13th (1117pts) & Hannah Lawden was 14th (1089pts).

In the U13 boys pentathlon, JJ Holley finished 4th with 1216pts & Daniel Constable finished 5th with 882pts.
