North Down Athletes gained 3 medals at the Athletics Ireland National Senior Track & Field Championships at Santry, Dublin.
Ben Reynolds ran 13:84 to win the 110m hurdles into a stiff (-1.9m/s) headwind with older brother and coach Tom 4th in 15.41s in the same race. Ben clocked a useful 13.65s (+0.8m/s) the previous day in Liverpool and should be safe for the World Champs on his 37th in the world ranking. In the women’s 100m hurdles, Sarah Connolly took advantage of the favourite (Sarah Lavin) being disqualified to win the race in 15.41s (-2.2). Sarah also took 5th in the long jump with 5.48m (+2.1) and a best legal jump of 5.40m (+1.8) Laura Saulters produced a triple jump pb of 11.41m (+2.0) at the perfect time – and a wind assisted 11.43 (+4.8) – to take bronze in the women’s event. Craig McMeechan ran a well paced race in the U20 men 3k to place 4th in 9:02.12, while Rebecca Collins was also 4th in the women 5k walk. Andrew Graham had to contend with a 5m/s headwind in his 100m heat, clocking 12.06.
