The Ulster Secondary Schools Athletics Association Milk It Cross Country Championships took place on Wednesday at Mallusk in severely cold conditions amplified by strong winds. There were still huge fields with the Province’s top schools athletes in contention and the club athletes stood up to the test well. We will go through the events race by race but first should mention the fine performance of Amelia Tyler (Grange Park) at the final of the Flahavans Porridge Primary Schools League where she won the girls race.
At Mallusk Megan Briggs (St Columbanus) was 7th in the Mini Girls race with Abbie Webster (Glenlola) 8th in 7:21, Annabel McNutt (Glenlola) 14th in 7:28 and Rachel Gillespie (Sullivan) 50th. In the Mini Boys race, Jakob Swann (BGS) was 8th in 6:38 with Ben Jennkins (BGS) 26th and Mark Carberry (BGS) 36th. Moving up a level to the Minor Girls, Murphy Miller (Strathearn) was 2nd in 9:54 and Sarah Moorcroft (RHS) 31st. At Junior level, Jessica Scott (Lagan Coll) was 10th in 11:16, Mollie Brown was 18th and Anna Scott (Lagan Coll) was 24th. In the Junior Boys, Aaron Sexton (BGS) was 19th in 9:50 and Conor Brady (Sullivan) 28th.
In the Intermediate Girls, Lauren Hamilton (RHS) was 53rd and in the Intermediate Boys, Craig McMeechan (BGS) was 5th in 17:00 min, Reece Simpson (BGS) 34th and Peter Speers (Sullivan) 95th. In the Senior Girls, Zara Mulholland (Glenlola) was 16th in 12:01 and Chloe Johnston (Strathearn) 50th. Corey Brown (Belfast Met) was 30th in thrSenior Boys.
