Murphy Miller (Strathearn) had what must be North Down’s best ever result in the Irish Schools XC Championships were held on Saturday at Clongowes Wood College at Clane in County Kildare. In very blustery conditions, Murphy led most of the way in the Minor Girls section of the GloHealth All Ireland Championships before being just pipped near the finish for 3rd in 5:51 min. She also led Strathearn to 3rd in the team race. Craig McMeechan (BGS) and Jessica Scott (Lagan College) both finished a very Healthy 21st in their respective races, Craig in the Intermediate boys and Jessica in the Junior Girls.
Craig ran well in a brutally fast race. He had a good and very fast start and avoided a few fallers and ran a solid race afterwards, coming in in just over 17:20. It was his best finish so far at the All Ireland Schools. It was basially a similar story for Jessica.
Minis do not compete at the Irish Schools.
