The IAAF XC permit meeting at Greenmount College in Antrim took place on Saturday, having moved from its January slot. The subsequent demerging from the NI Senior Championships and the late positioning in the season resulted in very few senior domestic participants although the proximity of the World Championships in China in two weeks time ensured the standard of the senior races was extremely high with mens and womens races going to Kenyans. That all meant nothing to junior athletes and they had a superb stage to finish their season in style. A stage that Tony Wall’s North Down juniors took full advantage of. They had individual and team wins all season and Greenmount provided a climax. With the going mainly hard and fast, Amelia Tyler won the Primary Schools Girls race. Johnny McCracken, Conor Matthews, Finlay Miller and Barney Miller won the Primary Schools Boys race. Megan Briggs won the U 13 Girls race. Murphy Miller won the U15 Girls race and along with Jessica Scott, Anna Scott, Sarah Moorcroft and Rachel Gillespie won the U15 Girls team race. By any standards, that’s an impressive days work.
