David Balmer wins Hawtin Shield-Jessica’s record.

hawtin shieldDavid Balmer, who two days ago, ran the Belfast Marathon in 4:04:21 hrs, showed no sign of ill effects on Wednesday evening whe he romped away with the Hawtin Shield on the Crawfordsburn Trail. David started early in the handicap and showed no sign of being caught.  (The Hawtin Shield is a club handicap normally held just before Christmas but it fell foul of the Big Freeze). David was followed over the line by a bevy of  speedy chorus girls with Ange Perrott,2nd, Valerie McDonough 3rd and Jessica Craig 4th. Darren McKee had the net fastest time of the night with 19:29 min, followed by Jessica Craig 20:03 and Terry Eakin 20:35. Jessica’s time totally blized the North Down ladies record for the Crawfordsburn Trail. The fast dry conditions may have played its part but her time was still an impressive minute faster than Lauren Scott’s 2009 previous best.

Apologies for the lack of pictures but we did manage the obligatory group photo before the batteries self-destructed
