ParkRun booms as Victoria Park gets underway

The second ParkRun site  in Northern Ireland had its inaugural event on Saturday In Victoria Park while there were another 178 finishers at the now well-established Waterworks event. A dozen North Down athletes were in Victoria Park to greet the new event and were able to point to a win by Francis Marsh in 16:44 min with Michael Dyer next in 16:52, Roberta Dornan the first lady in 18:40 and Terry Eakin the top age-graded performer with 18:11. David Balmer had a pb, Zoe Illingworth had a seasons best and all ran well even after a heavy week of training and competition. The first kilometre was a bit quick for early morning with Michael going thrugh in 3:02 and Francis 3:08. Both slowed on the 3 lap course to the high 16’s but with the flat course promising to be very fast, plan to revisit it with fresher legs in a couple of weeks or so.

Both parkRuns operate year round on Saturday mornings, Victoria Park at 9.00am and Waterworks at 9.30 am. There is no charge, admission being by barcoded card and newcomers should register beforehand. The barcodes will work at all ParkRun events
