Winters day at the Mighty Oaks XC

On Saturday, December 12th, our hardy athletes faced the toughest conditions so far this winter to tackle the Mighty Oaks XC at the Mid Ulster Sports Arena in Cookstown. Megan Briggs was our sole representative in the junior races and claimed 1st place in the girls U13 race after running through ankle deep snow and mud around an undulating one mile course.
Having left Bangor in the winter sunshine, the NDAC ladies were surprised and horrified to witness the grounds in Cookstown but the hardy girls put on a good show and gained valuable points for the club in this race, which was the fifth in the Athletics NI Cross Country League. The men then embarked on five laps of the same course which was a test of endurance and stamina. Congratulations to Valerie McDonough and Mark Weir who both came 2nd in their respective age categories.
Next Saturday sees the club travelling to the North West XC at Gransha whilst others will go to Tollymore to compete in the popular Run Forest Run series. Finally, we would like to wish all members and friends of North Down AC a happy and peaceful Christmas and every good fortune for 2016.
