The annual Hawtin Shield was held on Boxing Day around the 5k trail course in Crawfordsburn Country Park. The conditions were soft, to say the least, but that did not deter 42 hardy club members ploughing their way around the route. The handicap team of David Seaton, Clare Russell and Brian Smith did a super job and ignored all bribes offered.
The course markers and marshalls kindly relinquished their opportunity to run and no one took a wrong turn around the undulating course. Ken and Lynn Hawtin were delighted to present their shield to one of the youngest participants, Tara McDonough, who is enjoying her first full cross country season with the club. Hot on her heels was her Dad, Philip with Lisa McMeechan third to cross the finish line. Craig McMeechan, despite setting off 11 minutes after the first runner, posted an impressive net time of 17:44 and was the fastest male with Jessica Craig earning the title of fastest female with a net time of 20:27.
