Ben takes 110m hurdles record below 14 secs at Senior Championships

reynolds brosBen Reynolds took 0.14secs off the Northern Ireland record he set a week or so ago in Belgium as he took the Northern Ireland title at the Senior Championships in Antrim, a meeting marred  by frequent heavy showers. He becomes the first Northern Ireland hurdler to break 14 secs with 13.98 secs and the first athlete this year to claim the £200 bonus for a senior record set in the province. His opponents included brothers Tom and Luke, both former Champions, in 3rd and 4th.

With 7 senior titles going to the club, 2 more of them went to Hannah Lewis with 5.79m in long jump and 25.05 sec in 200m, both won by huge margins. Jeremy Harper had another 2 in shot and discus with 12.22m and 47.05m, Kathy Hetherington won discus with 34.94m and Niall Robinson had a gun-to-tape win at 800m in 1:54.12 min. Bronze medals went to Tom Reynolds at hurdles, Mark Armstrong at 200m, Adam McComb at 400m and Francesca Brown at javelin.

As well as senior medals, Mark, Adam, Francesca and Kathy also took age group medals as did Matthew Martin who had a double at U18 shot and javelin with 13.22m and 58.35m, his javelin result his 3rd over the Commonwealth Youth Games consideration standard.  Josh Lowry continued his improvement at 800m with a new pb of 2:02.31 min.
