[Not a valid template][Not a valid template]North Down mens’ team were 3rd at Tullamore on Saturday in the Woodie’s All Ireland National Leage Final, marginally behind 2nd placed St Abbans with Clonliffe Harriers retaining the title. The womens’ team were 7th, narrowly behind 6th. North Down were among a tiny group of clubs to reach the final in the top Premier Divisions of both men and womens’ league.
Ben Reynolds was top performer in the mens’ team with a huge win in his specialist 110m hurdles in 13.98 sec, followed by a joint win at high jump where he repeated his party piece of jumping two metres off three strides. With strong backing from all athletes,other high scores included a win in javelin, 2nd’s at long jump, triple jump and discus, 3rd’s at shot and weight for distance, 4th’s at 800m, 5000m and 4 x 100m relay.
Pick of the girls’ results were a win at discus by Kathy Hetherington with 36.34m and a 2nd at triple jump by Clare Robinson with 10.72m. There were 3rd’s by Aimee McNeilly at 100m hurdles, Lauren Scott at 1500m and a big 3000m in 10:22.06 min by Roberta Dornan while Jessica Craig had a 4th at 800m. With the girls again short in numbers, the team had to do a lot of scrambling by all in order to cover the requisite number of events.
