One athlete who is still in blistering track form and who can hardly want the season to end is Roberta Dornan. Roberta nailed her second club masters record in a week, following her third place at 3000m last week in the National League final at Tullamore, when she was the outright winner of the 1500m at Mary Peters on Saturday in the Northern Ireland Masters Championship. Roberta ran the first lap in 73 sec, then backing off until a scorching last 400m gave her the win in 4:51:75 min. Another outright winner was Mark Weir who won the mens’ 800m in 2:06.20.
There were some good fields at the Masters Championships with a good sprinkling from North Down AC leaving several club vets records to be amended. Terry Eakin had a great run in the 10000m with a time of 38:55.70 min, finishing 2nd and 1st M60. Debbie Matchett and Stephanie Hambling ran in the womens3000m with Debbie 1st F45 in 11:54.04 and Stephanie 1st F40 in 12:02.41 min. Pat O’Driscoll was 1st M60 at 1500m in 7:13.08 min and at 5000m in 25:05.09.
