Hundreds of women once again lined up in the grounds of Stormont last Sunday 9th October for the Belfast Telegraph Runher 5 and 10k. Whilst 450 were entered for the 5k, over 500 had entered into the 10k double lap course run through the hilly grounds of the estate. In the 5k Jessica Craig fought a hard battle to defend her title but faced solid competition from triathlete Judith Lowry of Invictus Tri Club/City of Lisburn AC who won the event. Jess was second in 19.43 with fellow North Down athletes all following on strongly and highly placed.
Francesca Brown was 4th in 20.35, Rachel Gibson 6th in 20.52, Ange Perrott 8th in 21.07 with Abbey Taylor 12th 22.05.
Meanwhile in the 10k due to misdirection by one of the marshals onto a slightly different route, the race was reduced from 10 to approximately 9k. There were only a few front runners who had taken part in the race on previous occasions who completed the full course, one being overall winner Cathy McCourt in 39.02. Cathy was declared winner with no objections from second and third place North Down runners Julie Balmer 35.26 and Ali Robinson 39.33 who both ran the shorter route. Other well placed North Down runners were Valerie McDonough 11th, Francis Mitchell 35th and Kathy Graham 48th
*10km results have been adjusted so that times reflect the fact that 9km was the distance actually covered by the majority.
