Golden Four titles retained

Obviously it awaits official confirmation but it is clear from the results of the Golden Four meeting at Templemore that North Down have retained both mens’ and womens’ titles. The men could not be caught and the women could only be beaten in unlikely but mathematically possible circumstances. That was put to rest when Eva Massey and Janine Munnis added to the North Down lead. It is good to see Eva out and putting well though unfortunate she had no opposition and Janine’s three events made the lead airtight.

The lack of a serious presence had absolutely nothing to do with the venue and the club supports the presence of a round in Derry but the clash with the Birmingham final was always going to cause problems. Hence the big push to wrap up the leagues a round early. It had been intended for a carload to make a token mens’ presence but injuries scuppered that.

For the record Eva putted an impressive 15.53m and Janine ran 31.65 for 200m, triple jumped 8.81m and threw the javelin 31.90m. It was good to see that the new photo finish equipment is now operational at Templemore.
