Well they weren’t exactly queuing up to travel to Scotstown in January but North Down were one of the four clubs which finished the required six finishers at the Northern Ireland Junior Championships. Full marks to all who travelled and faced 7 laps of mud. Glen Willis has a team gold from last year but being under 21, he was eligible for another crack. He led the team home in 24th in 47:03 with Darren McKee a place behind and they were supported by Dougie Grant, Jon McGarvey, Nick Irvine and Michael Aumonier. Francis Marsh in 6th led the Male Masters along with Terry Eakin, Gerry Coy and Tony Wall. No medals, though Francis and Terry led their category, and they probably had the highest average age and the entry level was 35. Brian Smith and Fred Murdock were 2nd and 3rd in the separate 65+ race though the field was tiny. In the Female Masters, in-form Stephanie Hambling, much improved Ange Perrott and Ali Robinson all had great runs but lacked a critical 4th team member.
