YDL Round 3

Our young athletes attended the third event of the Youth Development League this Saturday.

The U17 events were dominated by our European Youth Games athlete Aaron Sexton who not only won the 200M and 400M but yet again broke the 200M record at the league with a 22:16 time. His 50:07 in the 400M wasn’t too shabby either. He was adequately supported by Aaron Blackmore in the 200M who won the B race with 24:56 and Luke Adair in the 400M who claimed a great 3rd place with 58:24.

The U17 girls saw Aimee Johnston claim 4th place in both the 200M A, 29:00 and the Long Jump B, 3:86. Molly Longstaff won the B 200M in a time of 29:11 and Nia McNally stepped up to run the 800M A to finish in 2:40:17 and a 4th place, and her customary 3000m in 12:05 resulting in 2nd place. Molly Longstaff was 4th in the Long Jump A with 4:35 and then threw 15:69 in the Javelin A to finish 5th.

In the U15 boys Jonny Moore was 5th in the 200M A, 27:81 and 4th in the 300M B, 45:89. John McNally deputised for Jonny in the 200M B finishing 6th in 30:99 and Jakob Swann won the 300A in 42:01 and then won the 800M A with a very quick 2:09:31. John McNally ran a 2:33:44 in the B race to take 5th place. Finlay Miller threw both the Shot, 3rd with 5:64 and the Discus, 4th in 14:02. Jakob Swann came off the track to throw the Shot A and finish 4th with 7:43 while Jonny Moore also finished 4th in the Discus A on 14:35. The U15 boys relay team finished 6th crossing the line in 56:79. The U15 girls dominated the track events with Rachel McCann 1st 200M A, 26:70, Megan Drummond 1st 200M B, 28:19, Murphy Miller 1st 800M A, 2:20:50 and Megan Briggs 1st 800M B, 2:27:58. Rachel McCann also won the Long Jump A in 4:78 backed by Megan Drummond in the B winning with 4:61. Kate McCann was 5th in the A Shot Putt, 6:68 and Amy Kimber 2nd in the B string with 6:22. The relay team finished 2nd in 54:21, less than half a second behind the winners.

Katie Kimber was successful in the U13 girls events, winning the 150M A, 20:41, the Javelin A, 20:67 and settled for 4th in the Discus A, 14:24. Rose McGreevy won the B race in the 150M in 21:84 and backed it up with a Javelin B win, 12:35 and 3rd in the Long Jump A, 3:62. Junior middle distance runner Ellie Gordon finished a comfortable 3rd in the 800M A with 2:37:47. Euan Tyler, Adam Skelly, Barney Miller and Flynn Longstaff covered the U13 boys events. Adam ran a quick 32:36 in the 200M A with Euan 33:72 finishing 7th and 6th respectively. In the 800M races Adam finished 3rd in the A race, 2:37:49 and Barney 4th in the B, 2:48:48. Adam then also took part in the Long Jump B and finished 5th with a jump of 3:35 while Euan finished 6th with 3:51 in the A string. Flynn Longstaff managed 2nd in the Discus A with a credible 14:11 throw and Barney also achieved 2nd in the B string with 9:22. Flynn also threw the Javelin 17:57 to finish 3rd in the A at the same time as Euan finished 2nd in the B string Javelin with a 14:29 throw. The boys then finished 5th in the relay.
