Dervock Half Marathon & 10k
On Saturday 23rd a small group of club members competed in the Kennedy Kane McArthur Festival of Running in Dervock, the birthplace of Kennedy Kane McArthur, Marathon gold medallist at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm.
The event, organised by Springwell Running Club and Dervock & District Community Association, saw over 300 athletes descend on the small village to embark on the undulating route through rolling countryside
The action started at 10.45am with the 10k race, where, 35mins and 47 seconds later, Ben Caughers won gold, finishing a clear 4 minutes ahead of silver.
At 11.00am the Half Marathon commenced on quiet roads taking in local villages and through the infamous Dark Hedges. 9 club members competed in this race, where Eamonn O’Reilly was the 1st club finisher well under 1hr 30min. This was Pat O’Driscoll’s 85th Half Marathon and is well on his way to completing his target of 100.
