The five lap McConnell Shield for Senior and Veteran Men followed the Age Group Championships with the riverside stretch well churned up. James Budde was the top club finisher and in the leading group of four or so for three laps but eventually drifted to 11th in 29.54. Veterans made up the rest of the ten strong North Down team.
George Bell was 37th in 31.53, John Quiery 49th in 33.13, Tony Wall 52nd in 33.22, David Seaton 55th in 33.48, Marcus McAuley 67th in 35.17, Pat McMullan 83rd in 37.12, Ken Hawtin 86th in 38.46, Trevor Spencer 90th in 39.29, Richard Belshaw 97th in 46.06.
City of Derry won the McConnell Shield from Ballymena and Antrim by one point with North Belfast third.
